Chest Hair Removal For Men
Why Chest Hair Removal For Men?
Remember when a big, bushy rug on a man’s chest was considered attractive? Okay, I’m sure there must be some women who still like that look, but if you open any male fashion magazine, most if not all of the models will have smooth hairless chests. The truth is that it’s considered neater and is definitely the more popular choice in chest hair etiquette these days. Also, it better shows off a man’s muscles, so that the work you put in at the gym (even if it’s minimal) is more noticeable! However, because men’s body hair is often thick and wiry, you don’t want to just grab your razor and start shaving. Instead, follow these tips in order to get the smooth attractive look you’re after (and which should also get the attention of the ones you are trying to attract!)
Your options for male chest hair removal include shaving your chest, waxing your chest, using specially designed hair removal creams and finally laser hair removal.
If you want to shave your chest:
The first step you want to take is to trim your chest hair (using scissors or a beard trimmer is fine) so that it is about three quarters of an inch long, as this will make it much quicker and easier to shave.
Then, wet the chest area and apply a little bit of regular moisturizing lotion over it – this is of course an optional step, but will help to cut down on irritation as well as make for a smoother shave. Now, lather up the chest with your favorite shaving cream (see our Sensitive Shaving Creams section if you need a recommendation)just as you would if you were shaving your face or any other body part.
Shave the entire chest in one direction (you may want to do the stomach too!) and then do a second shave in the opposite direction. Doing so should mean you get every hair completely and the smooth chest you’re after.
Rinse the chest well, dry and then apply a soothing aloe, such as Aubrey Organics – 100% Pure Aloe Vera (this is especially important if it is your first time shaving your chest) to cut down on any irritation that may occur.
If you want to wax your chest:
Go to a professional! The first time you have your chest hair waxed it is going to hurt, but it will hurt ten times more if you try to do it yourself or have a friend do it. Those who wax hair professionally know where to pull the skin to help maximize each wax strip’s effectiveness and minimize the pain. However if you do insist on waxing your own chest hair you can follow these helpful tips to hopefully cut down on the pain level:
First of all chest hair needs to be dry before waxing.
Just like in chest shaving, waxing will be less painful if you trim your chest hair to about three quarters of an inch long. Also, there will be more tugging at the hair if you simply leave it long and curly before waxing it off.
Apply wax in the direction of hair growth – using a thin layer of wax. It must be a thin layer or it will be very painful and difficult to remove.
Place the strip over the area to be waxed and rub it for a few seconds to ensure adhesion. Then hold the skin tight while you quickly pull to remove the waxing strip in the opposite direction of how you applied it. Apply aloe or a soothing cream immediately after waxing. This well help to cut down on irritation as well as nasty ingrown hairs.
Interested in trying hair removal creams:
Another option for chest hair removal is using hair removal creams, such as Hair No More Vanishing Creme or Nair Hair Remover for Men.
. CAUTION: Do not let such creams come in contact with your nipples – it says so right on the package! While these creams can be an effective means of hair removal (and claim to last longer than shaving) keep in mind that they remove hair by chemically burning it off. So, those of you with sensitive skin may find this method to be quite irritating to your skin. It is suggested to try this method on a small patch of your skin first, to see how you react to it. If you find it burning or irritating to the skin, remove the cream immediately and discontinue use!
Laser hair removal for your chest:
Finally there is the option of laser hair removal. While this is potentially the longest lasting solution, be aware that it doesn’t work for everybody and is of course much more expensive than the aforementioned chest hair removal options. Also, as laser hair removal is still a relatively new procedure, there isn’t yet much evidence of exactly how long it is effective for. However, the bottom line is that while pricely (and actually there are tons of Groupon and Groupon-type offers for this service), there are many people walking around free of hair due having laser hair removal on their chest, and so we could not leave it off this list.
